Establishing a
Relationship with God
In order to establish a relationship with God, I had to maintain my salvation. In order to accomplish this, I began attending various college Bible studies. I ultimately established my relationship with God by accepting His word as the final authority and praying more about His will in my circumstances. I learned the importance of staying in the presence of God, for it is indeed a secure place. For believers of God, accepting salvation and maintaining a relationship with God is the best source for a happy, wholesome life.
The Bible tells us to delight thyself also in the Lord and he will give thee the desires of thine heart. (Ps. 37:4). This means that God wants to fulfill our desires even in a mate, but He wants us to have someone with a kindred spirit. In other words, we must be equally yoked with a person. Saved or not, certain actions are simply inappropriate or unwise, such as aligning oneself with someone who has contradictory aspirations or ideals.
The guy I was dating was not saved, so my spirit was in constant conflict. My boyfriend's roommate was raised in a Pentecostal church, so he understood my spiritual struggles.
